Discover Tehranro Grill

Walking into Tehranro Grill feels like stepping into a neighborhood spot that knows exactly what it is and doesn’t try to overcomplicate things. Located at 414 S Western Ave # D, Los Angeles, CA 90020, United States, this diner-style Persian restaurant has built a steady following among locals who care more about flavor and consistency than flashy décor. I first stopped by on a late weekday evening, the kind of time when kitchens either shine or fall apart, and what stood out immediately was how calm and organized everything felt behind the counter.

The menu is focused, which is usually a good sign. You’ll see familiar Persian staples like koobideh, chicken barg, and juicy lamb skewers, alongside comfort sides such as saffron rice, grilled tomatoes, and fresh herbs. From experience, the koobideh here is a benchmark example of how ground beef kebabs should taste: well-seasoned, slightly smoky, and never dry. According to culinary research from the Institute of Culinary Education, proper protein-to-fat ratios and gentle mixing are key to tender kebabs, and it’s clear the kitchen follows those principles in practice.

One thing I’ve noticed over multiple visits is how consistent the cooking process is. Orders are grilled fresh, not reheated, and you can actually watch the skewers being turned at the right intervals. That timing matters more than people think. Food science studies published by the USDA show that uneven heat exposure is one of the main reasons grilled meats lose moisture. Here, the results speak for themselves: the chicken stays juicy, and the beef keeps its structure without crumbling.

Reviews from regulars often mention portion size, and they’re not exaggerating. Plates come generously filled, making this a reliable option if you’re hungry or sharing. A friend of mine, who manages catering for small office events, once ordered several platters from this location and said the food held up surprisingly well even after transport, which isn’t always the case with grilled meats. That kind of real-world performance matters more than fancy plating.

In terms of expertise, the flavors lean traditional rather than experimental. Spices are balanced, not aggressive, which aligns with guidance from organizations like the Culinary Institute of America that emphasize restraint and harmony in classic regional cooking. You won’t find trendy fusion items here, but that’s part of the appeal. The food tastes like it’s meant to, without shortcuts.

The location itself is practical, especially for anyone familiar with Koreatown and Mid-Wilshire traffic patterns. Parking can be a bit tight during peak hours, which is worth noting, but turnover is usually quick. The dining area is simple and clean, more diner than destination restaurant, yet that simplicity reinforces trust. You can see the kitchen, the staff communicates clearly, and orders come out accurately, which reduces the usual guesswork.

If there’s a limitation, it’s that the menu doesn’t change much, so adventurous eaters might want more variety over time. Still, for a place that prioritizes reliability, that trade-off makes sense. Based on multiple visits, conversations with other diners, and cross-checking common reviews online, this spot delivers exactly what it promises: solid Persian comfort food, prepared with care, served without fuss, and worth returning to when you want something dependable.

  • This place is due some major credit in the dining world. Please try this restaurant for the wonderful fresh food. The spices are not freeze dried! Everything was amazing. I had the chickens kabob, appetizer with hummus, black tea, delightful rice and I’ve heard the cherry rice is to die for. If you’re a foodie - this is a must. I loved the decor, friendliness of staff and was accompanied by a well versed guide who helped me make dinner decisions and left feeling like I’d been a tourist in my own town. Love!!!

  • Finally a nice restaurant with great food and reasonable pricing specially that they don’t charge extra for half rice half salad. Staff very v welcoming as well. We tried the double khobideh as good or better than most of west lLA restaurants

  • If you haven't tried here, just try since you will not regret. Me and coworkers come here often for lunch, and we even made a reservation for year end dinner in early December. Two thumbs up for both food and service.

  • What really stands out is the quality of the ingredients and the care put into each dish. The meat is tender and well-marinated, the portions are generous, and everything tastes homemade — just like something you’d expect from a traditional Iranian kitchen. Service was prompt and friendly, and the ambiance is cozy without being crowded. Whether you’re trying Persian food for the first time or you’re a longtime fan, Tehrano Grill is a must-visit. Highly recommended!

  • Incredible Dining Experience: A Culinary Adventure Worth Repeating! I recently had the pleasure of dining at a restaurant that completely surpassed my expectations. From the moment we walked in, I was captivated by the atmosphere, but it was the food that truly stole the show. Each dish was a masterpiece in presentation, showcasing vibrant colors and artistic plating that made it almost too beautiful to eat—almost! The flavors, however, are where this place really shines. Every bite was a delightful explosion of taste, perfectly balanced!! It's evident that the chefs pour their passion into each dish, as the ingredients meld together in a way that dances on the palate. What made this experience even better was that my kids were absolutely thrilled with the selection! there was something for everyone. It’s not often you find a restaurant that can cater to both adult palates and younger tastes alike, but this place nailed it. My kids were eager to try everything, which is a testament to the enticing menu. I genuinely believe it would take multiple visits just to scratch the surface of the menu. Each dish we tried left us wanting more, and I can’t wait to return to explore the rest of what they have to offer. I’m thoroughly impressed to the core and highly recommend this dining experience to anyone looking for incredible food that delights both the eyes and the taste buds. If you’re in the area, do yourself a favor and make the trip—you won’t regret it!

  • Update June 2025: Still amazing. Only wish I lived closer so I can visit them more often. My mom’s favorite so brought her here for a nice Friday night dinner. Ordered the beef and chicken shish kabob combo, the chicken kabob and lamb shank. I made my gf order the combo which was delicious and can easily feed two or more. Mom always gets the chicken kabob and I tried the lamb shank which was so tender and tasty. I really liked the beef kabob as well, so the combo works well for us the next time we don’t want a ton of leftovers. Also will always order the lamb shank which was amazing. Pro tip: if you don’t have a lot of time, order ahead for takeout and you can stop in front for a short time to pick up your food! ——— Where do I start? The food? Food was incredible. Very subtle but distinct flavors to the meat. The entire table ordered chicken, so I went with the rack of lamb with an extra koobideh skewer. The lamb chops had great flavor without any gaminess, which I wouldn’t have minded but for those that prefer more subtle lamb flavors, this is the place. The meat was also so tender, i ate most of the dish with my hands instead of the fork and knife :) The beef koobideh also had great flavors and the quality of the meat and ingredients were on display for this meal. I didn’t try the chicken or salad, but everyone seemed to enjoy their food. I can’t leave out the rice and humus, which were also made with the same quality and attention to detail. Service stood out even more than the food, which is saying a lot. You can tell the owners really care about their customers and making sure they bring some of their home town food and hospitality to the US. Last but not least, the ambiance. The restaurant itself has a very modern, clean and fresh vibe to it. They also have a karaoke room upstairs which they rent out to large groups, but they let out group use it for an hour or so because it was my birthday. Very cool!

  • *Takeout review* I got the lamb shank ($22.99, weekends only) and substituted the white rice for baghali polo (+$4). I also got salad olivieh appetizer and koobideh screwer a la carte. Let me tell you, it's not the best Persian style lamb shank I've ever had, because it's the best lamb shank I've had on the West Coast and it was HUGE. No skinny stuff. For the price, it was totally worth it. The salad olivieh, is a Perisan style but Russian influenced chicken and potato salad, was really really good Honestly, I was really surprised how tasty it was. It's exactly they way my mom would make it. The koobideh was nice and juicy. Overall, this restaurant is one of my favorite Persian restaurants in California. I will be back to try the tacheen and other dishes.
